Susanne Herbold participated with the artist collective cARTelle for the third time in the Discovery Art Fair Cologne. Several works entered private collections during the fair — including both parts of the “No Expectations” series. Waitlists exist for large-format works.
Third time – with 40 square meters
The Discovery Art Fair Cologne is one of the most visited curated art fairs in the German-speaking world. Around 100 international exhibitors — galleries, project spaces and individual artists — present their programme to an audience of more than 15,000 art enthusiasts and collectors. What sets the Discovery Art Fair apart from conventional fairs: galleries and artists show their works side by side on equal terms. Participation is curated. Every year anew.
Booth E10 at the XPOST Cologne was cARTelle’s third joint participation in the Discovery Art Fair Cologne. On 40 square metres, Tanja Bäumler, Susanne Herbold, Yvonne Voermans-Eiserfey and Alexandra Hülbach brought four independent artistic signatures into a shared space.
The Opening on 23 April — Invitation only — was once again a great success. The booth was so well attended that the works were at times barely visible on the wall. Conversations, encounters, genuine resonance.
Two fairs, one week
Almost simultaneously with the Discovery Art Fair, the Kunstmeile Rodenkirchen opened on 24 April — one of Cologne’s most traditional open-air exhibitions. I attended the vernissage in Rodenkirchen personally, while my cARTelle colleagues represented the booth at the XPOST. At the Kunstmeile I showed my own, independent works — a different context, a different encounter with the audience.
Into Private Collections
Both works from the “No Expectations” series found new homes during the fair. Several works from the RAW. series also changed hands. Demand for large-format works was so strong that waitlists formed for upcoming pieces.
What moved me most was not the number of works sold — but the conversations that came with them. People who stopped, returned, asked.
The RAW. Series — First Complete Presentation
The Discovery Art Fair was the first major public presentation of the RAW. series as a cohesive body of work. Sixteen works, 50 × 40 cm, acrylic, oil pastel and charcoal on canvas. Unframed. Several works were sold at the fair. RAW. is conceived as an ongoing series.
