Susanne Herbold at the XV Florence Biennale 2025

With the work „The Seed of Love“

German contemporary artist Susanne Herbold took part in the XV Florence Biennale 2025 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. With her large-format abstract painting “The Seed of Love,” she was part of the international exhibition on the theme “The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness.”

XV Florence Biennale Exhibition

From October 18 to 26, 2025, I participated in the XV Florence Biennale at the Fortezza da Basso.

Under the theme “The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness,” around 550 artists from all over the world presented their works—each with their own unique approach to the tension between light and darkness.

I showed my work The Seed of Love, which for me is a very personal exploration of the theme of transformation. It is about silent becoming, about the moment when light and darkness are no longer perceived as opposites, but as forces that together bring forth something new.

My artistic language of layering, color, and movement creates a space that is carried by inner peace and lively presence—a place where the essential slowly becomes visible.

In the accompanying video interview, I talk more about what drives me in art—and about the intention behind The Seed of Love: about trusting the process, about allowing uncertainty, and about the creative energy that arises when you let go of control and create space for unfolding.

Fra Angelico Centennial Exhibition

In addition to the exhibition days, the stay in Florence offered the opportunity to experience key locations in art history, including the Fra Angelico exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, a tranquil experience of color and spirituality. Between meetings with fellow artists, inspiring conversations, spontaneous moments, and many new connections arose. The energy of this week was filled with exchange, curiosity, and mutual appreciation. And again and again, there was the light over Florence—warm, clear, and full of movement.

I exhibited my work as part of Miami Art Week in the USA back in 2022. This was followed by further international projects, including participation in the book and exhibition project “Great Artists of Mallorca” in Palma de Mallorca.
